Angela Cole
Applied Art - Willow
Angela is an award winning modern artist - basket maker, deeply rooted in heritage skills. Her work is exhibited nationally.
She combines woven willow with woodland materials, making traditional and functional baskets, sculptural woodland baskets and garden plant supports.
Angela's designs are inspired by the woodland coppicing cycle, the willow harvest and found wild materials. Working with nature is an essential part of the creative process.
She follows the seasons, putting nature first; her work is completely sustainable.
Angela was granted a bursary by The York Foundation for Conservation and Craftsmanship to support her City and Guilds Advanced Basketry Skills Diploma, and a further bursary to research and recreate a C19th Yorkshire Laundry Basket. For Ryedale Open Studios this year she will be exhibiting this heritage basket and exciting new work arising from her Diploma.
