Hermione Crowe
Textiles artist
I'm a textiles practitioner specializing in construct textiles. My work explores the power of color, challenging the notion that vibrant hues are unprofessional. I see textiles as a therapeutic and universal language, and my practice is a nod to sustainability and feminist craft traditions.
I've exhibited at prestigious venues like Gawthorpe Hall and the Knit and Stitching Show, where I also taught workshops on darning and other traditional embroidery techniques. These experiences led me to create commercial products like bags and scarves, which I sold at events like YRAM and WoolJ13.
Currently, I'm a textiles workshop tutor, sharing skills like knitting, crocheting, and spinning to promote wellbeing. I provide a supportive environment for all ages and abilities, and I’ve run sessions for festivals and community venues, including ASMbly Fest and The York Makery.
I am also collaborating with sculptor Piers Edsall on a series of sculptures. We're creating inclusive, accessible art that celebrates diversity in North Yorkshire. By applying textile processes like darning to metal structures, we're making playful, visually striking work that combines my soft, vibrant yarns with his textural woodwork and metal pieces.
