Robert Dutton
Painting and Drawing
The sublime landscape is my inspiration. Immersing myself in nature with first hand experiences makes my work stronger because of it. First time experiences really count - painting and drawing directly in front of the motif really experiencing the moment and expressing it with different chosen media keeps the work exciting.
A 30 year track record of professional experience as a graphic Designer and Illustrator, also has an influence on my work. Composition and colour are at the forefront of what I create - coast land, mountain and moorland. With several successful sell out shows throughout the country, when the demand for my work became popular and commercially viable, I took the plunge and became a self employed fine artist. It was a decision I did not regret. Regular awards for my expressive style of work quickly followed. Well known art brands asked me to represent them such as Nitram Charcoal - Canada, Derwent Art Materials - Cumbria, Unison Colour Pastels - Northumberland, and I’m proud to represent them still today. UK Publisher ‘Search Press’ published my first solo book in May ’21 called ‘Drawing Dramatic Landscapes’ (the first in their Innovative Artist series) and has proved to be popular and a best seller. I write regularly for ‘The Artist ‘magazine (over 25 years) and teach regular classes and workshops in North Yorkshire, and The Lake District encouraging students to explore exciting creative directions with their art too which is equally rewarding!
