Christine Hughes

Textiles, Ceramics and Fine Art

Growing up in East Yorkshire Christine studied graphic design at university of Humberside and Lincolnshire, where she went on to work in several design studios in the area, then later for a large telecoms company in Birmingham.

It wasn’t until moving to Pickering, North Yorkshire her style began to develop and she began working on animal sketches which were sold at Hovingham market. Fast forward to 2019 and Christine was able to open The Gallery, a hub for locally sourced art, ceramics and homewares. With her studio within The Gallery it’s great for the public to engage and see what new works are evolving and over the last three years bold, vibrant colours are now the centre point of every canvas.

Christine’s work is influenced by strong patterns and neon abstracts depicting the North Yorkshire countryside and coast. Christine’s work has recently focused on mark making and use of bold colours in her fine art paintings. Christine is currently working on a range of illustrative pieces and large canvasses to build up her growing collection of quirky statement art. ‘My studio is always open for people to pop in and say hi, it’s a great place to be located in the centre of Malton and being surrounded by so many artists' work is great’.
