Lockton Artist – Gemma Atkinson
Gemma Atkinson studied Fine Art at York College before training in Silversmithing at The School of Art, Architecture and Design in London. She is a Mindful Art Teacher and an NHS Occupational Therapist specialising in Dementia. Based in Lockton, she draws inspiration from its rural and grounding connection to nature.
Gemma creates ekphrastic textured paintings, where imagery and poetry intersect to explore themes of identity, nature and self-growth. Influenced by the dramatic landscapes of North Yorkshire, her practice shifts between abstraction and technical precision, working mainly with acrylics, oils and pastels.
Each artwork is paired with fragments or full forms of her poetry, offering candid reflections while leaving space for interpretation.
At its core, her practice is about connection and themes that we all experience.
