My work explores the shifting moods of the Yorkshire landscape, capturing its essence through abstract oil paintings and monoprints. Rather than depicting a literal view, I aim to distil the textures, colours and rhythms that define this place across the seasons.
Winter's muted greys and deep shadows give way to the fresh greens and delicate light of spring. Summer arrives in expansive skies and golden fields, while autumn brings a richness of tone-burnished ochres, earthy browns, and fleeting crimson leaves. These changes are less a record of topography than an emotional mapping of time and weather, memory and presence.
Oil paint allows me to build slow, layered surfaces that hold traces of earlier decisions, much like the land itself holds its histories beneath each season's growth. In contrast, monoprinting brings an immediacy and unpredictability, echoing the way wind, rain and light can alter a scene in an instant.
By combining these approaches, I hope to evoke the sensory and temporal complexity of the Yorkshire landscape - not as a fixed view, but as an ongoing conversation between place and perception. Each work is both a fragment of the land and meditation on its constant transformation.
