Hannah Turlington

Mixed Media, Printmaking and Textiles

Hannah Turlington is an artist and researcher whose work is created as a response to life and emotion. Hannah works in many media and has a produced a lot of work through printmaking.

Hannah’s current work is exploring the experiences and expectations of women and how this impacts on their identity, with specific focus on conformity. Hannah tells the story of her life through her work which resonates with others. She is a storyteller, telling the stories of life that some others may shy away from, such as infertility and adoption.

Living and working from her home studio nestled into her garden in rural North Yorkshire, she finds inspiration from life and nature to create beautiful designs for textiles and products. She runs workshops for those that want to connect, not only with their creativity but with themselves and like minded people.

Hannah projects a rawness in her work and writing which comes from absorbing herself in telling her story, in whatever medium she feels the need to work in. She is currently working a lot in acrylics, hand stitched and hand printed textiles to get her message out there.  Hannah is a reflective artist and is committed to sharing her work that says something. Having worked predominantly with lino prints, Hannah loves the method process of creating a print, from the initial concept to the printing. Hannah’s work is comprised of many stages to make the lino print; collecting and photographing, illustrating, carving the block and then finally printing in limited print runs of 5 for exhibition pieces, some taking 50+ hours.

Hannah is exploring mixed media and the ways in which it can be combined with the print making processes.
